Principal's Message

Welcome to the Fairfield Public School District! The Winston S. Churchill Upper Elementary School serves approximately 390 students in grades 3 through 6, and offers a strong tradition of academic excellence. We are a community of learners focused on personal and professional growth in both character and academics. Students benefit from small class sizes and an outstanding faculty and staff. The 6th grade is fully departmentalized, and all students participate in multiple initiatives and procedures  in an effort to prepare them for their transition to West Essex Middle School. Students in 5th grade are separated into two academic teams, partially departmentalized, sharing two teachers for academic content areas. Students in grades 3 and 4 are self-contained for all academic subjects. Furthermore, we are a one-to-one school. All students are provided with a Chromebook at every grade level. Throughout all grade levels, instruction is aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). Our classrooms are "cultures of thinking" with an emphasis on communication, collaboration and differentiation.

Winston S. Churchill offers a full complement of learning experiences. In addition to core academics, students receive instruction in World Languages, library and media, computer technology, vocal music and physical education. Additionally, we offer our High Enrichment Program, a gifted and talented program for students who meet the qualification for entry into the program. Teachers and students extensively use a variety of software programs, including a full suite of Google Apps, with a focus on Google Classroom and Drive, to aid in the integration of 21st Century skills in our instruction.

A comprehensive music program is offered, which includes chorus, band and string ensembles.  This program provides students the opportunity to study a variety of musical genres, perform concerts, and compete in competitions. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of clubs.

Character education is infused throughout the curriculum in every classroom.  A consistent focus on habits that will assist our students in reaching their full potential is reinforced every school year. Special assembly programs and events will teach anti-bully themes and encourage our school's culture of kindness and respect for all individuals.

I am available to meet should you have any questions regarding Churchill School. I look forward to working with our faculty, staff, parents and community to provide our students with the best educational experience they can have. I wish you and your children a wonderful school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Ray Santana, Principal
